Hi Ratnika,

The casuarina removal was done over the last few months and was actually completed only a few weeks back. The olive ridley nesting season for this year was over before the removal. We will therefore have to wait till the nest season which will begin in January 2010 to see if nesting increases. If you wish to discuss this further you can call me on +91 9940300200 Regards akila

As an intern doing a project on Olive Ridley turtles for the WWF, I would like to know- since the casuarinas were cleared, has there been a notable rise in nesting taking place every year? I wish to reference to the work of the SSTCN in my project and recommend similar action in Orissa- hence any information on increase in nesting will be useful.
